Respect the Uniform

Shreveport Police Department makes national news. Good Morning America, Fox News, CNN and Inside Edition are all reporting on the terrible incident involving a veteran police officer and an alleged victim. Remember, there are always two sides to every story. Everyone is innocent until proven guilty. Let us respect the men and women in the uniform.

In the Forum, The Times printed an article on an enlisted man’s perspective. He was writing on the nuclear incident at Barksdale AFB. The men and women who wear the uniform are some of the best. We should support them with our respect and prayers. Below is an email I received from two service personnel.

They write: “Ephesians 6:12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places."

Paul speaks of the spiritual battles of all Christians when he wrote this verse. Sitting in his Roman prison cell, he like many of us had plenty of time to sit and think about his life. He recalled all the miracles and prayers and changed lives God had allowed him to see and be a part of, he could not keep from praising God. An amazing response considering he had been beaten, shipwrecked, flogged, and stoned for telling people about Jesus Christ.

I am comforted. My Soldier is here beside me unbroken, undamaged, unmarked, and perfect. We have just been mortared and casualties have come our way. We run with urgency as we hear the alarms blare, "Incoming, Incoming." Our hearts pound as we sprint to the hospital aid station. We quickly convene our group of medics and providers. We chose trauma teams and trauma beds. We appoint docs and prep our areas.

We check O2 tanks and suctioning apparatuses. We get our non-rebreathers, bvms, intubation kits; our controlled bleeding with kerlix, acewrap, and quickclot. Our fluids and meds with tomidate/ancef and lactated ringers. Airway, check. Bleeding, check. Circulation, che...... we are drowned out with yells from casevac, "Casualty #1 over there!" "Casualty #2 over here!" "Casualty #3 coming in!" Medics rushing to aid and the clinic turning into an uproar, mortars #4 and #5 come thrashing in. The windows shake, the floor rumbles, for a second the aid station becomes paralyzed. "I repeat, stay in your bunkers!" "Stay in your bunkers!" Mortars #6, #7, #8, and #9 raze to the ground and is prejudice against no one. Walls demolished, windows shattered and concrete barriers fragmented in bits. The earth trembles, mortars #10, #11, #12. I turn to My Soldier and know the hand of God was there with us. I grab his hand and knowing nothing else, we begin to pray.

We have a communications blackout and all internet and phones are down. Soldiers wait patiently until families are notified of injured loved ones. Commo blackout will then be lifted and we will again have communication with friends and family. Meanwhile, we will stay mentally and physically alert. Eventually life on the fob will go back to normal and this will be a mere image of the past. This pm, My Soldier is out on yet another mission. He still goes out about 5x's a week, I have yet to leave the wire. He tells me stories of the opposing forces and I know the dangers he faces each and every time he leaves. "Though we walk through the valley of the shadow of death, we will fear no evil." He reads this verse to me and I to him; we are once again comforted.

In 2 to 3 wks, we will move to another fob (forward operating base). The dangers are still out there, even more at the new base. The cease fire will be lifted and the insurgents will be given the right to strike once more. Pray for us that we may fight the good fight. That we will take heed to the voice of God and be consumed by His love. We have a new address that will take effect beginning on the 01 of March. All other mail will be forwarded to the new location. Thank you all for your love and support. You are all who keep us going.”
