Mother's Day is one of the most special days in all of the year. We know there are more telephone calls made on Mother's Day than any other time of the year. You need to make plans to call your mom.I heard about a wealthy son who decided to do something special for his mother on her day. He went to a pet shop and saw a very expensive talking bird. This bird could whistle Amazing Grace and quote the 23rd Psalm. This was an unusual bird. The cost of the bird was $30,000, but what did he care? He was wealthy, so he spent the $30,000 and bought the bird for his mother and had it shipped to her. On Mother's Day he made his call to his mother, "Mother, how did you like the bird I sent you?" She said, "O, it was delicious, son.”
Abraham Lincoln said, "No man is poor who has a godly mother." There have been many mothers in the history of the world who have impacted their sons in a tremendous way. Abraham Lincoln was one of those.
How many prayers of mothers have brought them to the foot of the cross? The Bible tells us about many wonderful mothers who are great examples for all of the mothers who want to be what God wants them to be. I think about the mother of Samuel, Hannah. Hannah, who didn't have any children for a period of time in her marriage and she went to God in prayer and asked God to give her a son. God answered her prayer and she was the mother of the wonderful man, Samuel.
In the New Testament we have the account of the young preacher boy, Timothy, a very special young man who came to know the Lord and became a great fellow worker of the Apostle Paul. His mother, Eunice, was a mother who had taught him as a child the things of the Holy Scriptures and had brought him to faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
Mom, you have just a few years to do your job. Mom, you don't have many years, it goes by in a hurry. Today as I sit and write this I am wondering, where have the years gone? I remember when my first baby was born and I remember when the next two sons were born. Last Sunday was baby dedication for the lives of 20+ children.
Boys and girls, if you have a mother and daddy who have had enough faith in the one True God to bring you up in the things of God, you have a lot to be thankful for. Teenagers, I know that some of you Christian young people complain sometimes that it's a little different at your house than it is at the houses of your friends at school. I know you think my parents make me go to church Sunday mornings, Sunday nights and Wednesday nights; you think it's just so hard on you. Young people, what today you look upon as a hindrance, I promise you that in just a few years you'll look back on it as a glorious heritage. You'll be bragging about the things you are complaining about right now. We ought to thank God for Godly influence. AMEN!
