Academic freedom

“Academic freedom” poses a threat to the state economy according to an article by Alan C. Leshner. The article states the bill before legislation will cause a decrease in the employment rate due to a lack of basic competence in science. This challenge on evolution with creation and intelligent design will cause computer technology to suffer in our state. This fight will be an “expensive, divisive destruction.” Leshner claims that 11,000 religious leaders from a range of denominations have joined the Clergy Letter Project which shares and embraces a moderate to liberal view. The school board in Dover, Pennsylvania lost a ruling under Judge John E. Jones III stating that, “intelligent design is a religious view….not a scientific theory.” (read the article here) There is a widespread belief that evolution has been proven by science, thereby making the Biblical account of creation untrue. But it is impossible to prove SCIENTIFICALLY any theory of origins. This is because the scientific method is based on OBSERVATION and EXPERIMENTATION, and it is impossible to make observations or conduct experiments on the origins of the universe. Scientists may speculate about the past or future but they can only OBSERVE THE PRESENT. That’s why evolution can only correctly be labeled a “belief” about the origins of life, not a proven “fact.” Dr. George Wald, winner of the 1967 Nobel Peace Prize in Science, has written: “When it comes to the origin of life on this earth, there are only two possibilities: creation or spontaneous generation (evolution). There is no third way. Spontaneous generation was disproved 100 years ago, but that leads us only to on other conclusion; that of supernatural creation. We cannot accept that on philosophical grounds (personal reasons); therefore, we choose to believe the impossible; that life arose spontaneously by chance.”
Here are some contradictions between evolution and scripture:
Bible: God is the center of all things (Genesis 1)
Evolution: Natural chance processes can account for the existence of all things.
Bible: World created in six literal days (Genesis 1)
Evolution: World evolved over the eons.
Bible: Creation is completed (genesis 2:3)
Evolution: Creative processes continuing
Bible: Oceans before land (Genesis 2:3)
Evolution: Land before oceans
Bible: Atmosphere between two hydrospheres
Evolution: Contiguous atmosphere and hydrosphere
Bible: First life on land (Genesis 1:11)
Evolution: Life began in the oceans
Bible: First life was land plants (Genesis 1:11)
Evolution: Marine organisms evolved first.
Bible: Earth before sun and stars (Genesis 1:14-19)
Evolution: Sun and stars before earth.
Bible: Fruit trees before fishes (Genesis 1:11; 20, 21)
Evolution: Fishes before fruit trees.
Bible: All stars made on the fourth day (Genesis 1:16)
Evolution: Stars evolved at various times
Bible: Birds and fishes created on the fifth day (Genesis 1:20, 21)
Evolution: Fishes evolved hundreds of millions of years before birds appeared.
Bible: Birds before insects (Genesis 1:20-31; Leviticus 11)
Evolution: Insects before birds.
Bible: Whales before reptiles (Genesis 1:20-31)
Evolution: Reptiles before whales.
Bible: Birds before reptiles (genesis 1:20-31)
Evolution: Reptiles before birds.
Bible: Man before rain (Genesis 2:5)
Evolution: Rain before man.
Bible: Man before woman (genesis 2:21-22)
Evolution: Woman before man (by genetics).
Bible: Light before the sun (Genesis 2:21-22)
Evolution: Sun before any plants
Bible: Abundance and variety of marine life all at once (Genesis 1:20-21)
Evolution: Marine life gradually developed from a primitive organic blob.
Bible: Man’s body from the dust of the earth (Genesis 2:7)
Evolution: Man evolved from monkeys.
Bible: Man exercised dominion over all organisms (Genesis 1:28)
Evolution: Most organisms extinct before man evolved.
Bible: Man originally a vegetarian (Genesis 1:29)
Evolution: Man originally a meat-eater.
Bible: Fixed and distinct “kinds” (Genesis 1:11, 12, 21, 24, 25; 1 Corinthians 15:38-39)
Evolution: Life forms in a continual state of flux.
Bible: Man’s sin the cause of death (Romans 5:12)
Evolution: Struggle and death existent long before the evolution of man.
