On September 11, 2009, the same day that marked eight years since the terror attacks that changed America forever, over 100 U.S. Veterans received the Louisiana Veterans Honor Medal Ceremony from Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal. Our Pastor, Dr. Randy Harper, had the privlege to give the invocation for this moving ceremony at the Northwest Louisiana War Veterans Home. Since the medal was authorized last year, Jindal has personally presented the medal to more than 4,000 state veterans, and he added another 159 to the tally in the latest stop. In addition to 136 home residents, Jindal presented the ornate gold medals to 10 of the war home's staffers and to 13 veterans from outside the home. He was joined by Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary Lane Carson and Brig. Gen. Glenn Curtis, director of the Joint Staff for the Louisiana National Guard, in presenting the awards.
Gov. Jindal gave a moving address thanking these brave men and women who are our heroes, their families who have supported them, the staff and leadership at the Veterans Home who take care of them daily, and the men and women who are currently serving our country across the world. You will find pictures from this event located below.
"Today, we celebrate brave men and women who have served our country with honor. While these heroes span different generations -- different battles in different places at different times -- they are united by a common cause: their love of country, their honor, and their country." -Gov. Boby Jindal
